To hear more about the series and its turbulent rise, we tracked down a bunch of ex-DMA and Rockstar personnel to discuss the original game’s controversy, how the series evolved, and why it almost never happened in the first place. It was a controversial decision, but helped to further establish the Rockstar brand – a name that still dominates the industry today. Before the release of Grand Theft Auto III, however, publisher Take-Two shut DMA down, moving a number of its staff from Dundee to the newly formed Rockstar North in Edinburgh.
